Ministry is Hard. This Book was written to Help.

While there is no greater joy than serving as a pastor in the local church, at times, it can be incredibly painful.

Sorrow, hurt, and discouragement of various kinds come with the territory. And as a result, it can be really tempting to jump ship. In fact, many do.

From time to time, one of my pastor friends will call me up and say, “Well, it’s one of those days when I would give just about anything to leave ministry and become an ice-cream truck driver. Can you imagine! I mean, everybody loves ice-cream and since you drive the truck, everyone loves you! No complaining, no criticizing, just smiles and joy and people happy to see you all the time!”

Well, my guess is as good as it sounds, if you’re reading this book, God hasn’t called you to be an ice-cream truck driver.

He’s called you to ministry, with all the joys and pain that come with it.

I get it. I’m a pastor too. And I wrote this book to encourage you in the midst of the challenges pastors all face.

This is a book to help you persevere in faithful ministry.

It’s a book about enduring the ups and downs, the mountain tops and the valleys of life in the church.

It’s a book about lovingly leading your biggest encouragers, and at the same time, your biggest critics.

It’s a book about putting your family first and what that looks like practically on a day to day basis.

It’s a book about managing your schedule and all the challenges that come with that.

It’s a book about developing leaders in your congregation who can help your church grow in spiritual maturity, biblical health, and effective mission.

It’s a book about handling difficult conflicts with grace and truth.

This is a book about persevering in faithful ministry. In particular, this book focuses on those essential things every pastor needs to remember and implement in a church revitalization context.

This book was written to help you remain rooted in the Lord, steady in your pastoral call, even when the storms are raging all around you.

And to do so with joy and hope.

That is what this book is all about.
